Common Cardiovascular Medications

We have provided links below to the pharmaceutical company websites for a number of commonly prescribed, brand-name cardiovascular medications.  This list is not all-inclusive and may be updated periodically.  When a generic equivalent of a particular name-brand medication is also available, we have indicated the name of the generic medication.

It is important to remember that your cardiologist prescribes specific medications based on YOUR individual medical condition(s).  Many factors are taken into account in determining which cardiovascular medication(s) to prescribe for a particular patient, including

  • the patient's medical status;
  • other medications that the patient may be taking;
  • the potential for drug interactions with the patient's other medications;
  • patient allergies or possible other reactions to the medication;
  • patient preferences for generic vs. name-brand;
  • the patient's prescription drug plan's preferred formulary, etc.

The inclusion of a name-brand cardiovascular medication on this section of our website is NOT an endorsement or recommendation by HPV Heart of any particular medication for any particular patient.

HELP IN PAYING FOR YOUR BRAND-NAME  MEDICATIONS

The cost of brand-name medications can be a financial issue for many patients.  Patient assistance programs are run by pharmaceutical companies to provide free medications to people who cannot afford to buy their medicine.

The RxAssist  website is one source that offers a comprehensive database of these patient assistance programs, as well as practical tools, news, and articles so that health care professionals and patients can find the information they need.

There is also a patient website at  RxOutreach  where a limited number of medications are available at a discount, depending on patient income.  Another patient website with information on pharmacies that participate in a discounted medication program is Together Rx Access.

PLEASE NOTE THAT THE WEBSITES LISTED HERE ARE COMMERCIAL SITES SPONSORED BY THE PHARMACEUTICAL COMPANIES THAT MAKE THESE BRAND-NAME MEDICATIONS.  If you have questions about a medication that has been prescribed by your HPV Heart cardiologist, please speak with him or her first.  These sites provide added resource information.
